The Homecoming 2022 Shopping Cart Races took place on Oct. 5. A racing track was formed with vibrantly colored ribbons, with nine eager teams preparing for the race.
By 5 p.m. everyone was assembled. The teams looked ready, their attitude to win visible. All teams consisted of three people, two runners who push the cart, and one who sits inside.
The track accommodated three teams, so three rounds were made for everyone to take part. Many people crowded around the track to watch.
Among the many within the crowd, voices exclaimed: “The last time I sat in a cart, I was 5 years old!” as well as “When will it start?” Some said with uncertainty, “I’m a little scared,” and others said the opposite, “I am excited!”
The game was on! Racers thrust their carts forward as they barreled down the track fast and loud, the crowd cheered and applauded in support of the participants.
The winning cart passed the finish line, and when it came time to announce the results, it was said that there would be two nominations - the winner of the race, and the winner of the fan favorite shopping cart.
The carts were pre-decorated by each of the team’s members. The winner of the race was the Residence Life team!
In the nomination for the most originally decorated cart, the Soccer Club won; the way this was decided was by who the crowd applauded and cheered for the most.
Baeli Kinsley, a member of the Soccer Club team, shared thoughts on the 2022 Shopping Cart Race,“We expected to do good, and we did, we will be back next year!”
Issra Zitouni from The International Club team reflected, “Since we belong to The International Club, me, Tasnim, Mohamed, and Peter thought about decorating a cart in a related theme.”
“At the beginning I was scared to death, I thought it was going to be a very bumpy, dangerous ride,” Zitouni continued, “I jumped into the cart, and it was amazing. It was smooth for me, but certainly challenging for them. I want to do it again.”
