The Men and Women’s Basketball preseason conferences happened on Wednesday, Oct. 12. Each team and their coaches shared their game plans as well as their mindset for the upcoming basketball season. Adyson Clabby, a senior guard player on the Women’s Basketball team, provided insight into what the team dynamics are off the court.
“Well, we did have a bake night, we did bake cookies together,” Clabby said, and shared how taking a break from the competitiveness of the game and having fun while doing group activities makes the players feel more connected. The Women’s Basketball Team’s first game will be on Oct. 29 against Westmont College in the P1FCU Activity Center at 12:00 p.m.
In the Men’s Basketball Preseason Conference, the team shared how difficulties and challenges brought the players closer together. Coach Johnson shared his mindset on how he wants the team to view each game, and how a “big picture perspective,” is necessary.
“Not that we are going to see necessarily that losing is okay, or losing is fine,” Johnson said and elaborat-ed, “You are going to learn a lot by failure, and you know, it’s not necessarily one week or one game” that defines the season.
Even with the potential challenges of this upcoming season, the team has developed perseverance from their experiences both on and off the court. Oreon Courtney, a Sophomore Guard, explains his thought process regarding this.
“We have to keep our head up, you know,” Courtney said, “We have a lot of highs and lows in seasons, and we have to have the mindset of keeping on every day.”
The Men’s Basketball Team’s will be playing against The Seattle Mountaineers on Friday, Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the P1FCU Activity Center! Cheer on fellow Warriors in person, or even online by livestreams on lcwarriors.com.
